I’ve been sick all week, the annoying kind where you’re still working through it because life doesn’t stop just because your sinuses revolt. The upside is that I’ve had a little extra time to dive into creative work for a digital guide. Somewhere between design tweaks and sipping my turmeric and ginger tea, I ended up down a rabbit hole.
Ear lobe line art.
I went searching for simple illustrations and suddenly realized how completely bizarre the human ear actually is. I mean, look at this lineup:

So what is it? It’s like a tiny topographical map glued to the side of your head. A swirl of ridges and folds designed to do very specific, very impressive things:
• catch sound
• boost certain frequencies
• help you figure out where noises are coming from
• funnel vibrations into the eardrum so your brain can turn them into meaning
Basically, the outer ear is your personal acoustic satellite dish. Which is remarkable, considering it also looks like a squiggly pasta shape most days.
And if I’m being honest, a few of these could easily be mistaken for other orifices. Once you see it, you can’t unsee it. I’m just saying. Yikes.
So here I am, sick and working, zooming in on ear drawings and realizing how strange and wonderful the human body really is. Creativity arrives in the oddest places…
Anyway, if you needed a moment of weird delight, here it is. And I end up going down a lot of rabbit holes, by the way. Stay tuned.
